    Managing Your Manager Successfully
The PA–manager relationship is one of mutual dependence. Managers need cooperation, reliability, and honesty from their Personal Assistants. PAs, for their part, rely on managers for vital information and critical resources, for setting priorities, making connections across the rest of the company, and more. It’s a relationship that needs to operate as smoothly as possible. To manage this relationship successfully, you need a good understanding of your manager and yourself, particularly your strengths, weaknesses, and working styles. Once you are aware of what facilitates (or impedes) communication with your manager, you can take action. Our managers are busy individuals who need to be handled carefully. We need to ensure we have all the information required to do our job efficiently, so that, in turn, we can provide even greater support to them. This training day is dedicated to helping you improve your capacity to communicate more effectively with your manager and develop the perfect working style; one that is characterised by clear mutual expectations, and that helps to make both of you more productive and effective.
      What will I learn?
    • How to develop communication styles to increase rapport with your manager
    • Tips for managing upwards
    • Effective ways to improve relationships with stakeholders
    • Assertiveness and handling communication in a conflict situation
    • Questioning techniques to increase understanding
    • Understand the importance of body language
    • Listening skills
    • and much more

Resilience – Essential Strategies and Tools for the Pressured PA
Even when times are hard, there are always people and organisations who are successful and resilient. What’s more, they flourish irrespective of the state of the economy and the challenges thrown at them. The key lies in their mind-set. This mind-set can be learned. John calls it ‘Achievement Thinking’, and it includes a collection of simple strategies and tools to empower and help you find, keep, and grow the strength to continuously flourish, build resilience, and manage change. You’ll learn how to recognise a limiting belief and overcome it, how to stay focused, and how to tap in to a little-known resource that’s under your nose to help you work more efficiently and effectively. Professionally, John’s methodology has helped companies and individuals hit their annual sales three months ahead of target. He even applied his methodology to his personal life and lost 7st (45Kgs) of excess weight. Now it’s your turn - what would you like to achieve?

Breakout Session I: Magic Moments with Microsoft
An enormous number of us use the world’s most popular software, Microsoft Office, on a daily basis. Yet only a few of us can truly call ourselves masters. We tend to use the same familiar features and functions - and ignore the rest. Yes, we can send a group email, but did you know you can also personalise each message through mail merge? Did you ever think of re-branding your presentations and documents in the exact colours of your company logo? And do we simply leave Excel out of the equation because we feel it’s really only for accountants? Microsoft Office Certified Expert Paul promises to make you love Microsoft a little more. You will learn how to use it effectively to produce amazing professional documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. We promise this session will save you time - and with our breath-taking shortcuts, it needn’t take you hours!
    14:00 - 14:50
Breakout Session II: Adapting Your Working Style To That of Your Manager
Do you love or loath last minute requests? Do you work hard to create a harmonious work place? Are you always looking for a new challenge? Do you ever wonder if it’s just you? Once you know more about work styles, you’ll understand how we all approach the same thing differently. This session will help you understand your work style and preferences, are you a ‘Be perfect’ or maybe a ‘Hurry-up’ type? You’ll be better at managing different expectations and accepting your approach is valid.
We will focus on how you can:
      • Work to your strengths and do more of what energises and interests you
      • Use words that appeal to other styles to build effective relationships
      • Influence and negotiate more effectively
      • Flex your style to get the most out of yourself and others, including your boss!
    14:50 - 15:20
    Guilt-Free Strategies for Saying “NO”
Choosing to say ‘yes’ at work can certainly reap rewards. Saying ‘yes’ to an exciting new project, ‘yes’ to a training course, and ‘yes’ to that promotion. Yet it appears that many of us are experts in saying ‘yes’ but novices at saying ‘no’. During this session you will learn:
    • To say ‘no’ without causing offence
    • To say ‘no’ to senior staff or your manager
    • To say ‘no’ without actually saying ‘no’
    • To stop feeling guilty when saying ‘no’
